From the 23rd to 30th March 2018, 36 runners and 20 cyclists embarked on their 1500km journey from Nelson Mandela Square in Johannesburg to The Cullinan Hotel in Cape Town for MAD2Run’s fifth annual fund raising event in support of the MAD Leadership Foundation.
Founded by Francois Pienaar in 2003, The MAD (Make A Difference) Leadership Foundation is dedicated to offering education scholarships to South Africa’s young academic achievers in empowering them to become talented and successful leaders in society.
Amelia Beattie, CEO of Liberty Two Degrees, has expressed:
“We, as Liberty Two Degrees, are proud to have given this important charity their launching point. Providing Nelson Mandela Square as the point of departure for MAD2Run’s 2018 event is a first for the foundation. Previously MAD2Run have not had the opportunity to kick off their journey from a well-known establishment, and owing to the history between Madiba and education, Madiba and Pienaar, and Madiba and South Africa’s youth, there is no better suited place to begin their fund raising event for education than from Nelson Mandela Square.”
