With a strong finance and advisory background, Gareth joined STANLIB in 2016 from Merchant West with an impressive 20 years of experience in the financial field. During his career, he has been a Partner at Deloitte & Touche, Managing Director and the Head of Project Finance at well-known South African companies.

After his contribution as a core member of the team that listed Liberty Two Degrees on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, Gareth took up the role of Finance Executive at Liberty Two Degrees. In this role, Gareth became an EXCO member in 2017 and is responsible for overseeing the overall financial scope of the company.

Roy is a proficient and experienced property developer, with a career spanning 20 years in developing and managing high-end environments across all sectors in the property industry both locally and internationally. Roy’s broad-based experience in both the development and management of retail property has equipped him to take the lead role in framing the design concept, briefing and managing consultants through the feasibility and leasing stages as well as the procurement, delivery and handover processes.

Roy assumed the position of Development Executive at L2D in February 2018.

His career highlights include a six-year tenure at Cavendish Square as General Manager after being involved in the redevelopment of the centre, and a three year role as a Retail Executive at the V&A Waterfront. Roy has also spent time in Dubai developing retail properties in the Gulf which exposed him to the high standards expected by both developers and retailers in the region.

More recently, Roy was appointed as Project Executive for the development of the 90 000m² Baywest super-regional mall in Port Elizabeth. His experience also includes a three year stint as a Retail and Commercial Property Executive for a property developer in Mahe, Seychelles.

He holds a B.Sc. degree in Quantity Surveying from the University of Cape Town.

Industry Experience: Over 10 years

Ben joined Stanlib REIT Fund Managers in April 2018 from SA Corporate Real Estate Limited where he was Company Secretary for a period of eight years. In this role he was also responsible for compliance and risk management of the JSE listed company and its approximately 40 subsidiaries. Prior to SA Corporate converting to a Corporate REIT, Ben was employed by Old Mutual Property which he joined as the Company Accountant in April 2000. During his stint at Old Mutual Property, Ben fulfilled various roles and was seconded to joint ventures in Saudi Arabia as Financial Manager for 3 years and to India as CFO for 18 months. He was also responsible for the secretariat function and risk management at these JVs.

Before joining Old Mutual Property, Ben held various financial and accounting positions in companies in the retail, services, importing and distribution and petrochemical industries. He spent four years working the United Kingdom mainly consulting as a financial manager.

Ben has extensive financial, property, corporate secretariat, governance, compliance and risk management experience in different corporate environments, across a number of sectors in four countries. 

He holds a post graduate qualification in Company Secretarial and Governance Practice from Chartered Secretaries Southern Africa (CSSA) and has a diploma in Marketing Management. In 2010 he obtained a certificate attended the Property Development Programme from the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business.

He is a fellow member of CSSA and an affiliate member of the Compliance Institute.

Nikiwe is an Asset Management Executive for Liberty Two Degrees. Her portfolio comprises of shopping centres such as Liberty Promenade and Botshabelo Mall, as well as varied industrial assets. Prior to her appointment at Liberty Two Degrees, Nikiwe was awarded the STANLIB 2014 Achiever Award for consistently delivering above expectations. She has also been nominated for the 2015 South African Women’s Property Network Young Achiever Award.

Carmen Collison has a track record spanning 15 years in the property industry. Prior to joining L2D in 2018, Carmen managed retail assets at SA Corporate Real Estate Fund, where she was responsible for the portfolio that was awarded the Best Performing Property Fund – Retail Market Sector over three years by MSCI South Africa. She was also responsible for the implementation of a turnaround strategy for Pavilion and Westgate Super Regional Shopping Centres as well as the implementation of a head office based property management division for Motseng Property Services in order to service Delta Property Fund. 

Carmen was also the General Manager at Billion Property Services which implemented a head office based property management division and was part of the team that listed the company’s subsidiary, Rebosis Property Fund. At L2D, Carmen manages the super-regional asset, Eastgate Shopping Centre.

Brian is a motivated and tactical Asset Management Executive at Liberty Two Degrees. He has 23 years of experience in the South African Property Industry with a particular focus on extracting optimal value from some of the country’s most prestigious and successful shopping centres/mixed use properties.

Brian’s background as a Senior Financial Manager in property development, Head of Finance at Liberty Properties, and Financial Manager at Investec Properties for Growthpoint brings to the table an expert knowledge in financial and management accounting, as well as in asset management. His responsibilities within Liberty Two Degrees involve managing regional shopping centres in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape, namely Nelson Mandela Square, Melrose Arch, Liberty Midlands Mall and Liberty Promenade.

Mel is an admitted attorney who, for the last 25 years, has specialised in the property industry. He played a comprehensive role virtually across every discipline within the property sector. He spent the majority of those years as an Executive Director of Liberty Properties. Mel’s primary fields of value add are retail and leasing with a depth of relationship and experience with both local and international Retailers.

Mel joined Liberty Two Degrees in August 2017 as a Retail Consultant. He acts as an advisor across the portfolio and brings to bear his experience and knowledge with a view of creating sustainable earnings for the portfolio as well as a tenant mix commensurate with our leading properties.

Bharathi is the go-to-guru of all things retail. She gained extensive experience over the retail property industry when working as Cell C’s Leasing and Acquisitions Specialist over the entire national retail portfolio, and then as one of Standard Bank’s Leasing Managers, overseeing three provinces. She found herself in the valuable role of Centre Manager for the Cascades Shopping Centre at Old Mutual Properties during her 11 years in the industry, as well as at MTN and Liberty Group prior to joining Liberty Two Degrees.

Bharathi’s advanced skills and knowledge have gained her extensive experience in the Property Industry.

She is also tasked with making recommendations regarding investment performance and opportunities.In addition to this, Catherine assists the CEO in the execution of governance related matters.

Coming from a strong financial background at both ABSA Asset Management and the Public Investment Corporation SOC Limited, Sumenthree joined Liberty Two Degrees in 2017 as a Property Investment Analyst. She is skilled in financial modelling and the analysis of investment opportunities.

While at ABSA, Sumenthree was part of the team that was awarded the Raging Bull for Best South African Real Estate Fund for 2016.

During her eight year career, Sumenthree has performed fundamental research and analysis of companies in the listed property, retail and food producer sectors of the JSE. Her responsibilities at L2D include monitoring the operational performance of the portfolio, analysing trading patterns and financial returns against budgets and benchmarks and reporting hereon within the L2D reporting framework.

Zweli started his work experience with Deloitte in 2015 as a junior consultant in the Risk Advisory team. He then moved to Meago Asset Management as an investment analyst in the listed property sector, where he honed his skills in financial and quantitative modelling and portfolio analysis. Zweli’s quest for a holistic view to property led him to Liberty Two Degrees, where he joined in June 2018 and is responsible for monitoring the performance of the portfolio, analysing trading patterns against budgets and benchmarks, as well as compiling statistical and other reports to support recommendations to Asset Managers, and for benchmarking purposes.

Imogen started her work experience as a graduate in the BP Downstream Graduate Program in 2012 where she gained experience within the Property Network Department, moving into her role within BP as New Business Property Developer in 2015. She then joined JHI Retail in 2017 as a Property Financial Analyst, working and gaining retail experience across the JHI property managed portfolios. Imogen’s drive to continuous learning and self-development led her to Liberty 2 Degrees in October 2018, where she joined the REIT’s Finance team as a Property Financial Analyst. Her responsibilities include monitoring the performance of the assets within the portfolio, analysing trading, retailer and other associated data by collecting and scrutinising trends as well as compiling statistical and other reports, supporting the asset management team.

Saadiyah joined Liberty Two Degrees in July 2018 as a Valuation Manager. Her previous role at JLL involved undertaking a range of property valuation and advisory services for purchase and sale,  decision making, due diligence exercises, private placements on the JSE as well as shareholder reporting for REITs in South  Africa. Prior to that, Saadiyah worked at Nedbank CIB Property Finance where she undertook valuations for loan security purposes. Her extensive experience in the property industry spans over seven years which includes commercial, retail, industrial, residential, specialised, hotels and development land. Saadiyah is a member of the RICS, a RICS Registered Valuer and a registered Professional Associate Valuer with the SACPVP.

Farhana, an admitted Attorney and Conveyancer of the High Court, joined Liberty Two Degrees in October 2017 as a Legal Manager. She has built up 18 years of extensive experience in the commercial property legal field having previously worked at Liberty Group Properties as Head of Legal and at STANLIB as Legal Manager. In her five years at Absa Capital and Absa Business Bank she specialised in investment and development finance for commercial property owners.

She also practised as a conveyancer and headed up the conveyancing department at Daly Incorporated. She is currently a member of the SAPOA Legal Committee. Farhana has been with the Liberty Group for just over nine years and provides legal support for the property portfolio owned by Liberty Group Limited and Liberty Two Degrees.

Lerato’s career spans 10 years in the fields of Investor Relations and Communications where her first stint in the field was at a business communications consultancy. Lerato joined the Investor Relations division at Liberty Holdings in 2014 and has since been instrumental in her capacity as Investor Relations Manager in various transactions across the group both locally and in the rest of Africa.

Lerato joined Liberty Two Degrees in April 2018 as Communications Manager. She manages all the company’s communications, including L2D’s communication to the Liberty Real Estate Portfolio investors.

Katija audited listed property fund companies in the USA and on her return she joined the Financial Accounting and Advisory Services division where she was responsible for assisting clients with technical reporting issues. She joins L2D from Texton Property Fund Limited, where she assumed the role of Financial Accountant for the international and national portfolio.
